There was a joke we were told as kids about telling someone that someone is dead -
It goes something like, "A kid is away at camp and calls home where his dad answers and immediately blurts out that the cat is dead. The kid is obviously distraught, and bawling about how they've ruined his camp experience by dropping such sad tragic news and they should build up to it where if the cat wasn't doing well, maybe she had climbed up on the roof of the house but got stuck and maybe next time he called she fell off and was whisked away to the hospital and then the final time maybe then she succumbed to her injuries and passed away - that way there would be some time for him to process it and be prepared for the bad news. The kid then goes on to ask how mom is doing and the dad goes, "Your mom is on the roof..."
It's a terrible joke with a biting punchline - but it felt appropriate for talking about Indiana Jones and the last attempt at a money grab. Harrison Ford is SO old now and the movie isn't even filming yet - so he's going to be even older and somehow is going to portray this character that he played 30 years ago? It just feels like Ford aged out of playing characters like this - so I drew this to mourn the news:

Indiana Jones is how old!?!?
Everyone was excited about a new Indiana Jones movie coming out - myself included - i wasn't so keen on Chris Pratt - but it would be better than the horrible Crystal Skull movie that came out a little while ago that we all hated...
But then they announced that Harrison Ford was coming back to the franchise - to kill it off completely, I expect?
He was great as Han Solo - and it was good to see him back in that - but he moved so much like an old man, and it was a little distracting to see him bumble about all slow like. And now he's going to be even older and playing what could be an even more dashing character? It feels like they need to regroup with a younger actor. Until then, here's what I think it'll look like:
I did a quick sketch with the old man from UP, which is what Harrison Ford is looking more like every day. Only...with an earring, for some reason...

Happy Pantry at the Anime Expo
Ever since we heard about the Anime Expo we wanted to take Happy Pantry there. We missed out on last year's just barely - and this year we were wait listed. We never thought we'd get in, but then they opened up some extra slots in Artist Alley and, much to our surprise, we were accepted! So now we're going to be showing at this year's Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 1st through July 4th.
Here are the hours of operation:
Friday July 1st: 12pm-6pm
Saturday July 2nd: 10am-6pm
Sunday July 3rd: 10am-6pm
Friday July 4th: 10am-3pm
One of us will be at Table 48H in Artist Alley - where you'll be able to find most of our Happy Pantry merchandise!

LA Cookie Con 2016
We were vendors at the second annual LA Cookie Con this last February 6th and 7th. Did you miss it? Because a lot of people did, even though it was the second one and there was a lot more publicity. If you missed it, you missed out!
Ron Ben Israel was there to lead the demos and talks for the second year in a row. We also saw Kawaii Sweet Treats and Dara the Bow Girl walking around as well - and they gave demos on how to create some of their delicious desserts. We even knew that Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes was there - and we missed him! Same with Sarah Michelle Gellar, but she missed out on Happy Pantry too, so it's their loss...is what we're telling ourselves...even though it might not terrible true.
It was a two day event and the convention hall was packed with people swarming each vendor looking for samples, merchandise or something delicious to buy and eat later. The lines were long - and I'm sure that made people a little more surly than they necessarily would have been - but there were a lot of open spaces and areas where one could get away from the crowd - and if they were smart, they should have purchased a VIP badge which would have gotten them into two different areas in the convention hall with even more samples and places to hang out, rest and even get a massage!
We had the Fookie on one side and Whatta Cookie on our other side. Both had amazing cookies! The Fookie (which you have to exclaim in a high pitched voice, "What the Fudge is a fookie!?!!?" because that's how they did it whenever someone asked) is half cookie and half fudge. They gave us two bars to try, and our assistant the first day, Maria, decided to take them both home and eat them all by herself because she's mean. So we had to buy more the second day. It was worth it! Seek out the Fookie - it's delicious! It was Whatta Cookie's first con - and they were champs - they were also smart and brought a lot of help - so they handled the crowds quite well. Their cookies were so good! I tried to buy some, but they insisted I just take a complimentary bag. They were terribly nice and have delicious cookies!

Image courtesy: One Punk Army - People pointed at a lot of stuff. Sometimes they even wanted to purchase it!

A new cupcake in town...
We decided that Ms Cupcake has let things go to her enormous frosted head. She's been getting a bit hard to manage with so much spotlight on her at all times. So we're introducing a boy cupcake.
We're still discussing what his stage name should be.
Also - Ms Cupcake has informed us that she resents the accusations we've made above as she is fictitious.

Designer Con Happy Pantry Map
Designer Con is this weekend at the Pasadena Convention center. We're excited to be vendors for the second year in a row. It's such a great show with some amazing artists, designer toys, and so many things your eyeballs will overload.
We're at booth 309:
We're at booth 309:
we're at booth 309...are the numbers big enough?
You can get in on the right hand side - that's the entrance (the traditional way to get into a building). From there you have to go through the ticket gatherers and security and then there are 3 entrances. Sadly they won't actually let us paint pink lines for you to follow to our booth - but try to use your imagination.
Last year we were in the front row, and hard to miss - but now we're 3 rows in AND in the middle of that row, so we don't stand out as much...except for all the pink.

Happy Pantry is going to be at Designer Con this weekend!
We're excited that we'll be participating in our second Designer Con. It's this weekend in Pasadena at the convention center. We had no idea what to expect the first time...because there's so much dude stuff...would they want our pink and cupcake nonsense? Turns out yes! And this time we have actual plushes to show...
Here's one of our silly drawings that we're going to post on Instagram.com/happy_pantry to advertise our participation in the show:
I thought it would be fun because it's Designer Con - and this was a version of the cupcake made to look like it was designed on blue prints.

Happy Pantry Boy Bibs and Hats!
We're finally getting into boy merchandise! We've had people come up and tell us to make cactus, plums and peacocks. We've had people say, "If only you had such and such," then they'd buy it. Well, we usually sigh that we can't accommodate their requests and hope the next person likes what we do have - but one thing we've been planning is the boy version of our Ms Cupcake.
Our bibs are $10 each and the hats are $8. But we also offer them as a set for only $15! Check 'em out on our website - www.happy-pantry.com
I guess that makes him Mr Cupcake? I guess...it's a terrible name, but that's what it is for now.
